Register for hill climbing skills clinic happening in June

This four-part series will benefit all cyclists, whether you are new to cycling or a competitive racer. Training and pacing techniques will be reinforced briefly at the beginning of the ride before everyone heads up Cypress Mountain. Participants will run through drills and exercises along the way up and will receive feedback from the coaches on hand. Register now to secure your spot! Sunshine Coast 1-Day Ride: Friday, June 3

Sunshine enthusiasts, get ready to head to the Sunshine Coast. Join us for a scenic one-day ride on Friday, June 3, that will be approximately 120km in distance, and see a total elevation gain of over 1600m. We recommend riders are prepared with food, extra layers, and clothing between ferry rides. No pre-registration to attend this ride is required. Just arrive on time!


  • Leave Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal for Langdale – Sunshine Coast on the 7:20 AM ferry. Arrive early to purchase your ticket and board.  
  • Riders will depart Langdale terminal and ride the coast highway to Madeira Park, approximately 60km one-way.
  • The group will stop for lunch which will be available to purchase. Riders will return to the Langdale Ferry Terminal via the coast highway. View the Strava route profile.


  • This is a “B” level ride with an average speed of 30km/hr.
  • Riders should bring their own spare tubes, air cartridges, appropriate clothing, food, and water.

New! Wednesday group rides to Cypress Mountain

To the mountain! Kick up your weeknight routine with an evening ride to the first lookout of Cypress Mountain. This is a ride intended for B level riders and above.

Ride expectation:The group will ride together to the base of Cypress Mountain, where riders can then begin climbing at their own pace. We recommend riders be prepared for travel during sunset hours, and are equipped with both front and rear flashing lights. Please note, there are NOscheduled ride leaders, but you can bet to see a lot of GS jerseys out there!

The women and men took the Tour de Bloom by storm in Wenatchee, Washington from May 5-8, 2016. The event hosted both stage and omnium races, with courses surrounding the Bavarian themed town of Leavenworth, Mission Ridge Ski area, the rolling roads of Waterville and downtown Wenatchee (the centre of its famous Apple Blossom Festival).

Morgan Cabot captured the Women's GC in the Stage Race with support by teammates Emma Lujan, Michele Schaeffer, Jody Rechenmacher and Alysia Withers. Lee Isaman finished 3rd overall in the Men's Category 4 Omnium, supported by teammates Matt Beveridge, Elliott Usher, Kellen Kjera, and Andrew Funamoto. 

Track your rides on Strava and challenge your fellow club members, for all the glory, and socks! Riders can enter as recreational or racer, with results sorted by gender and age groups. Ride the designated segments to capture the overall General Classification, King/Queen of the Mountains and Sprint Competition. You need to be a member of Glotman Simpson Cycling on Strava to participate. Here's how:

  2. Log in with your Strava account, and confirm your gender and age category
  3. Go out and ride! Most of the segments are popular local routes. Remember to record your rides in Strava.
  4. The challenge runs May 1 to October 2, 2016. Check back regularly to see current results.

Early bird registration for the Annual Cypress Challenge is open

The 9th Annual Glotman•Simpson Cypress Challenge will be hosted on Sunday, August 14, 2016. Join us as we climb Cypress Mountain together in support of life-saving pancreatic cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency. The Cypress Challenge benefits the BC Cancer Foundation and welcomes participants of all cycling abilities.

Individual entry is by a suggested minimum early bird donation of $25 before August 8. Register as a team of four in the Team Challenge for $500 before June 14 and each team member will receive a custom Cypress Challenge jersey with their team logo. Logo submission deadline is June 14. 100% of the funds raised at the Cypress Challenge go toward pancreatic cancer research. Over eight years the Cypress Challenge has raised more than $1.6 million for pancreatic cancer research and this year our sights are set high on reaching $2 million!

Club members can receive a discount off the regular price.

Club members can receive a discount, and save $20 off the price of entry. GranFondo Canada is also extending this discount to events including RBC GranFondo Banff, The Intrepid Stage Ride Okanagan, and Bici Gusti Gourmet Ride Whistler.

October 1: Levi's Gran Fondo - Santa Rosa, California

4th Annual Rotary Ride for Rescue: Saturday, June 11

The Rotary Ride for Rescue is a timed bike event for recreational and competitive riders, climbing Cypress Mountain. New this year, the event will host two rides, one on road and another on mountain bike trails. This affords a unique opportunity for the different biking communities to participate in the same event! Early bird registration ends May 17. 100% of the funds raised through pledges will support the North Shore Rescue and Rotary projects. Visit for more information. 

Southwest Marine Drive construction and detours

The City of Vancouver is replacing the sewer main infrastructure along Southwest Marine Drive and enhancing transportation safety. The project is currently underway and expected to be complete in 2017. Traffic lane closures will occur regularly during construction, and access may be restricted within posted areas. 

A reminder to cyclists to take caution when riding on Southwest Marine Drive. Please ride in a safe and responsible manner, abide by traffic rules, and follow posted detours. If you have any questions or concerns on the Saturday group ride that travels along this route, please do not hesitate to speak with a Ride Ambassador.
