A message from Club President, Michael Daerendinger
Happy New Year and welcome to 2016. While it is only February, the season will soon be upon us. Now is the time to set your personal goals and plan for the year ahead. On behalf of our board members, we are excited to continue to offer a supportive program of resources, rides and events that provide value for club members. Our events, weekly rides, clinics and special 1-day rides are already set, so mark your calendars and stay connected by checkingglotmansimpsoncycling.ca regularly and reviewing our monthly newsletter for the latest info, articles, photos and much more.
Palm Dessert and San Diego riding camps in February and March
Get a head start on your season with these sunny cycling adventures. These riding camps (not training camps) are open to any club members and are intended for level B and C riders. For both events, groups can be segregated depending on riders and pace. Please note, no travel support will be provided. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel and accommodations.
PALM DESSERT: FEBRUARY 18-21, 2016
Group rides begin at 9 AM each day in Rancho Mirage. Click on the links below to view route profiles, or visit the Events webpage for more details.
- February 18: Dillon Road (84 km)
- February 19: Fish Hatchery (87 km)
- February 20: Box Canyon (170 km) Out-and-back route can be shortened for riders.
- February 21: Palm Desert Metric Century (101km)
SAN DIEGO: MARCH 20-26, 2016
Rides will begin in the small town of Encinitas, with routes tailored for anyone staying along the coast in either La Jolla, Del Mar, Solano Beach, Encinitas, or Carlsbad. Click on the links below to view route profiles, or visit the Events webpage for more details.
- March 20: Camp Pendleton to San Clemente (114 km)
- March 21: Rancho Santa Fe (79 km)
- March 22: Lilac Road (99 km)
- March 23: Elfin Forest (73 km)
- March 24: Palomar (96 km). Begins in Escondido. Planned vehicle support.
- March 25: Soledad Climbing (99 km)
- March 26: Highland Valley Road & Ramona (122 km)

Calling all women interested in racing!
Are you thinking about racing this season? Or is this your first season of committing to take the plunge? It’s not as intimidating as it seems. In fact, it can be a lot of fun, especially when you have teammates! For any women interested to try racing, or are looking for more information on preparing for the season ahead, please join the Glotman•Simpson Women’s Race Team for our season kick-off social.
Date: Friday, March 4
Time: 6 - 8 pm
Location: Downtown, Vancouver (details will be provided to registrants closer to event date)
You’ll have a chance to:
- Meet current, new and prospective women racers (and future teammates).
- Learn a bit more about what racing is like.
- Find out how to prepare for your first race.
- Look at the local race calendar and see which races might appeal to you.
- Ask any other questions you might have (bikes, nutrition, pace lines – anything!)
No experience is necessary, and everyone is welcome. Open to club members, and non-club members who are curious about racing with Glotman•Simpson Cycling. Whatever your bike-related goals are, we would love to meet you! If you have questions about this event, please contact Morgan.

Many of our club members have already been riding with TaG each week, and testing their fitness. Locations in North Vancouver, Whistler, and now in Vancouver at Broadway and Columbia. TaG is equipped with state of the art Phantom 3 cyclops bikes (accommodating all pedal styles) that are fully ANT+ compatible. All riders take part in a max aerobic power assessment so that the workouts are personalized and enable every individual to train effectively. Save the date for Wednesday, March 30, when we officially kick-off the season with our annual social event and Annual General Meeting. We expect pre-ordered kit and free club jerseys for club members to be available. Event details coming soon.
