Neutral Roll Out (Credit: Chad Eberle of REP 1 Fitness)

The 4th annual Cypress Challenge went off with a bigger bang than any other year.  We had nearly 400 riders out to challenge Cypress mountain and raise over $120,000 for Pancreatic Cancer Research. Competition was also incredibly fierce. The official results are in and can be viewed by downloading the attached PDF's below.

A special thanks to all the competitors and volunteers who made this event possible.

UPDATE: Overall results by age category have now been posted

NOTE: Please note that we will also be posting photos shortly. So check back over the next day or so.

Thank you to the Volunteers

Donna Rodman on Sat, 2011-08-20 20:46

Dear volunteer team,

I would like to thank the volunteers for helping keep the spinning wheel spirits (read: dynamos) and tired and happily sore finishers going forward up Cypress. Particularly grateful to the volunteer who stayed with me to the end of the ride on the last 1 Km. Thank you and good on you for the dedication to assisting a stranger finish.

#313 - Donna Rodman (aka rooman - my handwriting may have been difficult to decipher on the entry forms)

Glad the race was successful as a fundraiser. $100,000.00 is an amazing achievement. Fantastic team spirit and support. It appears to be a race that will grow due to its purpose and refreshing planning. Signing off.

It's the same as last year so the distance would be 12.35km. Correct me if I am wrong!

Age Categories for Women over 45 Needed

Anonymous on Sun, 2011-08-21 20:09

Thank you for a fantastic event. It truly was an outstanding cycling challenge and one I plan on doing next year. Great organization, food, volunteers and friendly, uplifting atmosphere. Only thing to improve on is to have women's age categories broken down the same as the men and not group all women over 45! Many thanks!

The age category decisions largely reflect expected turn-out.  Given the turn out of this year's event we will re-assess women's age categories used for next year.

No event is perfect when it starts out, but improves with each itteration.

Thank you for your feedback, we will be discussing these issues shortly in our next meeting.

3 Concerns

Anonymous on Tue, 2011-08-23 20:46

What a fantastic event! .. friendly helpful vollys, yummy food, excellent washrooms, well organized & a terrific fund raiser.
Only a few areas of concern .. the cyclists that started the race off of Cypress Pl instead of placing themselves in their correct time corrals on Cypress Bowl Rd, proved to be a safety issue. My other concern .. why the discrepancy in the male & female age categories? Lastly, would it be possible to have our race packages picked up by friends next year?
Thanks again for a super day .. see you next year!

Further clarifications

Wendell Challenger on Wed, 2011-08-24 11:21

I am glad to hear you had a good time. We will be discussing these issues in our follow-up meetings.

In regards to age categories, I will re-itterate the answer I provided in the previous comment; categories are largely based on expected turn out, which we re-assess after each year's event.

Lastly, it is my understanding that package pickup is limited by whether or not the wavier has been signed in advanced. We cannot have riders showing up to the starting line without signing the wavier first. That said, I will raise this issue at our next meeting to see if there are any strategies we can take to improve package pickup efficiency.

Thank you for your feedback. And a big thank you to all our hard working volunteers.

Just curious as to why you have this age category, but no prizes or recognition to the riders that competed in it.
