The 2009 edition of the Yaletown Grand Prix proofed to be again on of Vancouver's premier bike racing events. Several thousand of spectators and a great organisation rounded up a great day of racing on Canada Day 2009. The Glotman Simpson team showed a great depth of strength in all categories.
Early on the day, Jennifer Kohm finished 3rd in the women's Category 3/4 race. Jennifer was very happy with her finish as it was her first podium appearance ever. "Do I dress up or do I just wear my cycling clothing?", was one of Jen's questions prior to the podium ceremony! Her teammate Monica Marchenski finished on a solid 5th place. Following the women's race the men Category 4 and 5 hit the stage. Marc Perrot gave it a serious try to win the Category 4 and it looked that he was the fasted racer on the course. He took a little bit to much risk leading the field into the second to last turn and crashed into the fence. Marc had to be driven to the hospital. He dislocated his shoulder and pulled his groin very badly. He will be on the bike very soon again. Niels Steiner placed 8th in the same race! Anselmo Rosiello was the teams lonely racer in the Category 3 field and he manage to sprint to solid 12th place.
The highlight of the night was the Master`s race. The Glotman Simpson Team decided to have a full squad of 6 riders participating trying to help Allan defend his 2008 title of the Grand Prix. The team, consisting out of Allan Prazsky, Bob Wellborn, Jack Okuniewcz, Mike Elliston, Rory McAdams and Wendell Challenger, put the hammer down early in the race and attacked the field constantly. Allan got away halfway though the race and soloed for victory. Rory McAdams closed up this exciting race with a 3rd place finish.
The elite women's and men's races ended without a podium finish but very solid performances. In the women's race Stephanie Ossenbrink finished on 6th place, Moriah McGregor on a 7th place and Rachel McBride on a 9th place! In the men's race Marvin Guzman placed on a respectful 14th spot and Rory McAdams (Rory raced the Masters and Elite race) 22nd.
Next up will be BC Superweek for our Team and Club racers!
