RIDING CAMP - san diego: february 19-25, 2017
Get a head start on your season with cycling in sunny San Diego, California. This riding camp (not training camp) is open to any club members and is intended for level B and C riders. Rides will begin in the small town of Encinitas, with routes tailored for anyone staying along the coast in either La Jolla, Del Mar, Solano Beach, Encinitas, or Carlsbad. Groups can be segregated depending on riders and pace. Please note, no travel support will be provided. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel and accommodations to San Diego. Bike rentals are available at Ride Cyclery (Encinitas), Nytro (Encinitas) and UCCylery (La Jolla).
Group rides begin at 9 AM each day.

an introduction to racing for women: MARCH, 2017
Are you thinking about racing? Or is this your first season of committing to take the plunge? It’s not as intimidating as it seems. In fact, it can be a lot of fun especially when you have teammates. For any women interested to try racing, or are looking for more information on preparing for the season ahead, please join the Glotman•Simpson Women’s Race Team for our season kick-off social.

No previous racing experience is necessary, and everyone is welcome. Open to club members, and non-club members who are curious about racing with Glotman•Simpson Cycling. You’ll have a chance to:
- Meet current, new and prospective women racers (and future teammates).
- Learn a bit more about what racing is like.
- Find out how to prepare for your first race.
- Look at the local race calendar and see which races might appeal to you.
- Ask any other questions you might have (bikes, nutrition, pace lines – anything!)

SEASON KICK-OFF EVENT: March 29, 2017
We're officially kicking off the season with our annual social event and AGM. We have a lot planned with Glotman•Simpson Cycling this year and encourage all club members, and those interested in joining or learning more about the club to attend.

first official group ride: APRIL 1, 2017
Release the fenders! It's the first official group ride of the season. See Rides, to familiarize yourself with meet-up time, location, route, and our tips for group riding etiquette.
Rides will follow the summer schedule, and Saturday group rides will begin at 8:30 am. Women's group rides, Wednesday, and Sunday group rides will also begin and follow the summer schedule.
SUNSHINE COAST, 1-DAY RIDE: june 2, 2017
Sunshine enthusiasts, get ready to head to the Sunshine Coast. Join us on Friday, June 2, for a scenic one-day ride, that will be approximately 120km in distance, and see a total elevation gain of over 1600m. We recommend riders are prepared with their own food, layers for riding, and clothing between ferry rides.
- Leave Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal for Langdale – Sunshine Coast on the 7:20 AM ferry. Arrive early to purchase your ticket and board.
- Riders will depart Langdale terminal and ride the coast highway to Madeira Park, approximately 60km one-way.
- The group will stop for lunch which will be available to purchase. Riders will return to the Langdale Ferry Terminal via the coast highway.
- This is a “B” level ride with an average speed of 30km/hr
- Riders should bring their own spare tubes, air cartridges, appropriate clothing, food, and water

MOUNT BAKER, 1-DAY RIDE: july 1, 2017
The annual Canada Day Mt. Baker ride will begin at the Sumas Canada / USA border at 8 AM on Saturday, July 1. The ride is approximately 145km in length, split into 36km segments. See route map. Pre-registration is required to attend this ride.

- Arrive at 7:30am. Ride leaves at 8AM from Canada at Huntington / Sumas Border.
- Parking: Available on 2nd Ave & 3rd Ave. adjacent to the border. Do not park in the mall parking lots for risk of towing.
- Cost: $20/person
- US dollars
- Whatever you need to ride - clothing/food/equipment/extra kit. Each rider must bring their own bag across the border. Once across you can drop off in the support vehicle.
CYPRESS CHALLENGE: August 13, 2017
On Sunday, August 13, the 10th Annual Glotman•Simpson Cypress Challenge, benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation, will harness the determination of hundreds of cyclists as they climb Cypress Mountain in support of life-saving pancreatic cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency.

2017 Gran Fondo Events With GS Cycling
Gran fondos provide a great opportunity to test your fitness, achieve a set goal and have a lot of fun. You can count on seeing many GSC jerseys at these popular weekend events. We'll focus on a select number of mass participation rides, with our gran fondo coordinators to provide pre-event communication, coordination with team registration, group get-togethers and support. For some, this might mean strategizing about pacelines and feed stations. For others, it could just include a reserved area at the start line. It will most definitely include a plan for post event libations. Supported gran fondo events:

GSC Tour of Vancouver strava Challenge: May - October
Track your rides on Strava and challenge your fellow club members, for all the glory, and socks! Riders can enter as recreational or racer, with results sorted by gender and age groups. Ride the designated segments to capture the overall General Classification, King/Queen of the Mountains and Sprint Competition. You need to be a member of Glotman Simpson Cycling on Strava to participate. Here's how:

- Log in with your Strava account credentials.
- Click to "join challenge" and confirm your gender and age category.
- Go out and ride! Most of the segments are popular local routes. Remember to record your rides in Strava.
- The challenge runs May to October. Check back regularly to see current results.
ANNUAL YEAR-END CELEBRATION: november, 2017
Celebrate the end to the cycling season, in our typical fashion, of an evening filled with music, photos, food, drinks and lots of laughs. Come one, come all, bring your partner, friend, or significant other. We'll be serving appetizers and a la carte menu items, something to meet everyone’s appetite.
