The Glotman Simpson Cycling Club will be hosting its 5th Annual Cypress Challenge for pancreatic cancer research on Saturday August 18, 2012. The ride will once again be open everyone with a bike, a helmet and the determination to pedal up the mountain. Save the date and watch this space for future updates.
Ride up Cypress Mountain to raise money for pancreatic cancer research. Anyone with a bike, a helmet, and the determination to pedal up the mountain is encouraged to participate. Over 300 local cyclists, of all abilities, are expected to pedal the 13 km to the top of Cypress Mountain.
Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all cancers. With so few survivors to advocate and raise funds, we have dedicated this year’s Cypress Challenge to the memory of Jack Poole.
Jack Poole, who was the driving force behind the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, died of Pancreatic Cancer in October 2009 just a few months shy of seeing his dream come true. He was a man of great spirit, drive and determination and his commitment to the community and to the public good was something he highly valued. The Glotman•Simpson Cycling Club is honouring Jack Poole by dedicating the Cypress Challenge in his memory.
The event was created by Geoffrey and Myriam Glotman in 2008 after they lost Myriam’s mother Betty Ergas to pancreatic cancer. In 2010 the event raised over $50,000 for pancreatic cancer research.
