A Fundraiser for Pancreatic Cancer Research
in Memory of Jack Poole

Saturday August 20, 2011

Cypress Mountain

Thank you poster

Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all cancers.    With so few survivors to advocate and raise funds, we have dedicated this year’s Cypress Challenge to the memory of Jack Poole.  Jack, the man responsible for bringing the Olympic Games to Vancouver, died of Pancreatic Cancer in October 2009 just a few months shy of seeing his Olympic dream fulfilled.  He was a man of great spirit, drive and determination and his commitment to the community and to the public good was something he highly valued.

Once again our 12 km hill climb up Cypress is open to everyone with a bike, a helmet, and the determination to pedal up the mountain.  This year the event will have 11 different ride categories to ensure riders of all ages and abilities enjoy the event.

  • Date:  August 20, 2011
  • Time: 7:30am sign-in / 9:00am start
  • Place: Cypress Mountain
  • Entry: $25 early bird (before August 10th) or $40 after August 10th
  • Registration:  Opening soon.  Check back for updates and details.

Last year’s event raised over $50,000 for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund at the BC Cancer Foundation. This year we hope to double those efforts.  There are several ways you can help:

  • Ride and encourage your friends to ride.
  • Donate or Fundraise.  This year BC Cancer Foundation is providing an online fundraising tool that will allow you the option to do some of your own fundraising.
  • Sponsor.  We are looking for in-kind and cash sponsors for this year’s event. 100% of all cash sponsorships, rider registration and donations go to the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund at BC Cancer Foundation. If you are interested in sponsoring or have a great potential sponsor lead please contact Dave Gillam at davidjgillam@hotmail.com or Tracey Rossignol at trossignol@glotmansimpson.com.
  • Volunteer. Contact Dave Gillam davidjgillam@hotmail.com for information about volunteer opportunities.
