Press Release

Patrick Edwards heading up to Sestrieres, Stage 17

By Patrick Edwards

When friends ask me how my Tour de France charity ride went this summer, I usually start off by noting that the pros gave me a one day head start and I stayed one day ahead the whole of the 3 weeks.  If they’re satisfied with this, I usually go on to mention that the food in France is great, and so is the beer they import from Belgium.  That’s usually about it.  There just isn’t that much I can tell most of my friends because they don’t ride bikes.  Breaking down the details just leaves them with some abstract notion that it was harder than commuting to work.

90K Cycling Challenge in Support of Great Art!

TOUR DE BIENNALE

SUNDAY OCTOBER 2, 2011 FOR SERIOUS CYCLISTS 18 YEARS AND OLDER

This year the Cypress Challenge was the most successful ever, raising an astounding $125,000. We would like to thank everyone involved, especially our kind and generous sponsors.

Due to a large number of participants registering this week we wanted to encourage everyone to come out Friday evening to pick-up their race package.  Only riders that pre-register will be guaranteed a race package, or "goodie bag" as we like to call them.  So, if you have not yet registered please do so before event day to avoid any disappointment and long waits.

Encourage everyone you know to do the same so our band of merry volunteers maintains their merry-ness (word?).  Of course should you be unable to make it Friday, the two choices below are still available for package pick-up and registration.

Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all cancers.    With so few survivors to advocate and raise funds, we have dedicated this year’s Cypress Challenge to the memory of Jack Poole.  Jack, the man responsible for bringing the Olympic Games to Vancouver, died of Pancreatic Cancer in October 2009 just a few months shy of seeing his Olympic dream fulfilled.  He was a man of great spirit, drive and determination and his commitment to the community and to the public good was something he highly valued.

Thank you to everyone that made it out to our first annual AGM this past Tuesday.  As you know we covered a lot but don't worry if you didn't get it all, it will be posted on the website shortly.

Remember, the official club ride start date is April 9th. This is when we will have Ambassadors to lead each ride and the times will change to 8:30am starts for the Racers ride, followed closely by the Enthusiast and Recreational rides.  Details for all club rides will be in the website next week.  For now, we will continue with our start time of 9:00am at Cuppa Joe's on W4th.

We are all very excited for the upcoming season and are even more excited that we have (at last count) 127 club riders to share it with!
