Spring in Deep Cove! A few weeks ago, we decided that we would conquer Mount Seymour (elevation gain 830m, avg gradient 7.4 %) for the first time this year on our bikes. Coming from the relatively flat terrain of Southern Ontario, it always amazes me to experience how altitude can drastically change weather conditions. At the bottom of the climb it was a typical spring day, and I was taking layers of clothing off before we set out for our climb.

Unsuspecting to the hard working cyclists, it became cooler and we came into contact with mists of snow floating in the air. Soon enough, there were banks of snow along the sides of the roads and I remember experiencing a sense of exhilaration of how crazy this is! A sense of determination prevailed as we climbed each switch-back until finally we reached the top. It was if we almost ignored the weather elements until we reached our destination. Once we reached the peak of our climb, we were faced with the cool winds and realization that we needed to descend. Again, the Ontarian in me is adjusting to descents that can take 30-40 mins, as well as the chill from the winds and from the body cooling down. However, there is a convenient coffee shop right at the bottom of the climb where we savor our triumphs of the day with warm drinks and food!
